About

The American Trauma Society

For over 40 years, ATS has served as an advocate for the trauma care system, trauma prevention programs, and the victims of trauma and their families throughout the United States.

Trauma is severe blunt or penetrating injury primarily caused by automobile crashes, violence, falls, or burns. The survival of trauma victims is reliant upon the strength of the trauma system in that victim's geographical area. The trauma system must provide:

  • Immediate response and medical care at the scene of the injury
  • Rapid transport from the scene of the injury to a qualified trauma medical facility
  • Qualified trauma medical facilities capable of delivering immediate trauma care and ongoing treatment for the injured person or persons

The New York State Division of the American Trauma Society is dedicated to reducing disability and death due to traumatic injury.  The NYS ATS fulfills the mission of the ATS by providing injury prevention education programs throughout all regions of the state. NYS ATS promotes trauma care by presenting trauma care education to providers at every level of care.
